Preferences: Dynamic Legends, Static Axis and Title

Post by jksmurf »

David,

Right, I know there may be a possibility to do this with a macro (or if there is another way?), but if there is no other way, I'd really like to have the Legend (and perhaps even other parameters) denoted as a "Do Not Save Legend Labels - Call from Selected Data" option when you save preferences.

The story is this:

1. I have made a graph using XYYY from within Excel=>Dplot and saved my preferences to my base chart preferences. When I made the base chart, intuitively, like in Excel, I chose the first row as well, as legend lebels. DPLot did great, as expected, and came up with the legends, no problem. I saved Axes Titles, main Titles, Chart Type and Units as my base prefences.

2. I then proceeded to try to make graph #2 and apply these preferences. I got the labels from Excel again, all well and good, until when I applied preferences the legend labels that popped up were the ones from saved preferences, not the correct ones I got initially.

3. What I did NOT know was that Dplot ALSO saves the Legend labels in the preferences. I would like to simply turn OFF this ONE saved label and ALWAYS have DPLOT dynamically redo the label.

It makes sense to me that some parameters you save as STATIC preferences, like Chart Axes Labels and Chart Titles, Plot Type Formats, Units etc. However it would seem a GREAT idea if there was at elast an OPTION to choose whether DYNAMIC parameters like Chart Legends (which are as dynamic as the chart data itself) would NOT be saved as a preference, but be called up by the plot from Excel.

What do you think?

Cheers

k.

This is a good one, and I've needed to customize what gets saved/not saved to preference files for a while. I'll get to it eventually. Sorry, that's the best answer I have for now.

No worries, I was hoping (and am glad) I hadn't missed something silly :-)
Now get to work!
