Woking with CSV files

Post by z116738 »

A "pick column to plot" is discussed in the help, but I cannot find this operation anywhere. I have 7 columns of comma sepperated text data and I need to plot the second and the forth coulmn. I want to go straight from the text data because the data is to much for Excel and I lose some of the data if I try to work with the text to columns on Excel.

Is there any way to go straight from text data, select the 2nd and 4th cloumn to create my plot?

Two ways:

You can right click on the file, pick "Choose program", and find DPlot. When the dialog for DPlot opens, if it recognizes that it is a valid csv file, it will present you with the options for picking the various fields/columns.

Second, start DPlot, and from the file open dialog, pick option "D", "Multiple columns (2D), e.g. CSV files". File your file, and then the dialog mentioned before will pop up where you can select your columns.

When using this second method, when the file open dialog opens, make sure "Pick Columns to Plot" is checked, otherwise DPlot will load everything.

Thanks, Jon.

The first is dependent on whether "Pick Columns to Plot" was checked the last time you opened a file with the File>Open command. (If it wasn't, then DPlot will plot all columns.)
