Haiti

Nothing to do with graphing, but this is too important to stick to my own rules for.

I have a cycling friend who has rounded up a group of similarly crazy, driven, humanitarian people to go to Haiti this weekend. Their mission will be to dig for survivors. What they need and don't have is a smallish plane and a pilot to ferry everyone from New Orleans. He's looking at leaving tomorrow (Friday) night, returning to the States Monday or so. He's insane, but insane in a very good way, and is a great organizer and energetic in the extreme. He's from New Orleans and spent the first few weeks after Katrina travelling around the city by boat looking for survivors, doing anything he could, and later heading up the Tour DeBris (Google it) bike rides to show the devastation to the rest of the world. He's the real deal, in other words, and this isn't a completely insane mission. Just mostly insane. He's my hero, and I'm very glad to know him.

If you're a pilot and think you can help out, let me know and I'll hook you two up.

Thanks for your time.

Not a pilot and don't know anyone who is, but God bless him and his insane kind! (Bike riders and insane go together - I know!! (I'm not a very good rider, so I'm not as insane!!!!!))

I sent some money to the Red Cross and Food for the Poor, but it's guys like this who put their personal lives in the middle of it. I'll be praying for him and all of the other who risk it all to help.

Alas, this trip appears to be a dead end. Mostly because of traffic and lack of airport capacity, the Haitian gov't requested a halt to all civilian flights into Haiti, and the FAA is backing that request up with a ban. He's still pursuing other means of getting there, but I'll be surprised if this happens.

Great guy, and after this post I'll restrict my comments once again to DPlot-related subjects. But this is a good story from '05 about Kenny:
