Setting the baseline shift

Post by kthoma85 »

Does anyone know how to set what the baseline shift? The help talks about basline shift but it doesn't say how to set what the shift is.

There are two baseline shift commands. For the plugin on the Generate menu, everything is automatic. It determines when the arrival time of your event is. (The plugin makes the somewhat arbitrary decision that the arrival time is where the amplitude departs from the first amplitude by more than 5% of the range in amplitudes.) It then integrates your input up to the arrival time. It then shifts your input record up or down such that the integrated record at the arrival time will have an amplitude of 0 (or very close to it).

The baseline shift command on the Edit menu requires you to have data processing mode turned on (Options>Data Processing). It does essentially the same thing, except that it prompts you for 1) which record you want to be equal to 2) some value at 3) whatever time you specify. If you're working with an acceleration record, for example, you could specify that either the velocity or displacement records should be equal to 0 (or any value you want) at a specific time. That function will then make whatever adjustments are needed to the acceleration record to achieve that goal.
